1/31/2013

It is a privilege for Global Insurance Company - GIC to serve as the jade statue of Buddha Emperor Tran Nhan Tong's insurance provider. Within a year, the Buddha statue will be displayed throughout 30 provinces and cities throughout the nation, giving non-Buddhists and Buddhists alike the chance to view the largest Buddhist work of art in Vietnam now.

The statue of Buddha Emperor Tran Nhan Tong, carved from jade stone and weighing close to 4.5 tons, was finally finished in Long Thanh district, Dong Nai province, on November 12.

The monument, which stands 1.6 meters tall and has a gold-plated face, was carved from a block of jade brought from Canada by a group of artisans under the direction of the principal artist Dinh Danh Tu. The mine where the jade Buddha statue of world peace was made at the end of 2008 also sold the jade block shown above. The "Polar jade" stone, which is well-known across the world, is discovered beneath the snow-covered mountains of British Columbia, Canada. The stone is tougher and more dazzling than any other nephrite on earth. Previously, the aforementioned gemstone was used to carve the same jade Buddha for World Peace. At Vinh Nghiem communal home in Ho Chi Minh City, His Holiness Gyalwang Drukpa and 108 lamas prayed for a 4.5-ton jade statue of Buddha King Tran Nhan Tong and held a groundbreaking ceremony to build the monument.

King Tran Nhan Tong's largest jade statue was located in Vietnam
Two original Ancestors of the Tran Dynasty were also created using the remaining stones from the jade block. At the same time, other stone pieces were fashioned into 100 sets of seals that resembled the Tran Dynasty seals and were intended to be auctioned off as part of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee's effort to raise money to aid the nation's needy.

Up until now, this is Vietnam's first large-scale jade Buddha statue.

The statue of Emperor Tran Nhan Tong was invited to Thuong Chieu Zen Monastery (Dong Nai) after its completion for people to worship and remember the Zen master who founded the Truc Lam Zen sect in Vietnam. A jade statue of Buddha Emperor Tran Nhan Tong was brought to Hanoi in November 2012 to commemorate the 704th anniversary of the Buddha's death during the National Buddhist Congress of Vietnam.
