Details of traffic violations will increase penalties from 2025
1/1/2025

According to Decree 168, which takes effect on January 1, 2025, violations related to transporting goods such as vehicles, machinery, and other equipment without proper securing will be subject to fines ranging from 18 to 22 million VND, an increase of 30 times the current penalty.

On the morning of December 29, speaking with Dân Trí reporters, a leader of the Traffic Police Department (under the Ministry of Public Security) stated that Decree 168 regulates administrative penalties for violations related to order and traffic safety in the field of road transportation. It also introduces a system for deducting and restoring points on driver's licenses, which will take effect from January 1, 2025.

According to this official, under this decree, penalties for many violations will be significantly increased.

The official further stated that some violations involving automobiles will see fines increased by up to ten times. For instance, transporting goods such as vehicles, machinery, technical equipment, or cylindrical items without proper securing, which currently carries a fine of 600,000 to 800,000 VND, will be increased to 18 to 22 million VND (a rise of 27 to 30 times).

Additionally, failing to yield to pedestrians or wheelchair users at designated crosswalks, which currently incurs a fine of 300,000 to 400,000 VND, will be penalized with fines ranging from 4 to 6 million VND under the new regulation—an increase of 13 to 15 times.

Below are the details of the new traffic violation penalties effective from January 1, 2025:

According to the Traffic Police Department leader, there are three groups of violations subject to increased fines:
- Violations that infringe on state management order, such as using fake or covered license plates.
- Deliberate violations that negatively impact traffic culture, such as running red lights and driving against traffic.
- Violations that cause traffic accidents.
